What is bar boost?

Bar boost refers to the increase in pressure or volume of air inside the intake manifold of an engine. This is achieved by using a forced induction system, such as a supercharger or turbocharger, which compresses the air before it enters the engine.

By increasing the density of the air, more oxygen can be delivered to the engine during each combustion cycle, resulting in more power and torque output. The amount of bar boost can be measured using a boost gauge, which displays the pressure in units of pounds per square inch (PSI) or bar.

However, excessive bar boost can also put strain on the engine's components and lead to reliability issues. It is important to ensure that the engine is capable of handling the increased airflow and that proper tuning is done to prevent detonation or engine damage.
